In Their Words …
" Keeper of political scorecards on environmental votes, this small but feisty group actually endorses candidates who might be good for green causes. Its small staff proves that you don't need a huge budget to make a difference. Still, more money couldn't hurt. "

Chesapeake Life Magazine

Environmental Voters Win in 2010 Primary Election!

On Primary Election Day, Marylanders made a clear choice to elect candidates who are conservation heroes -- thank you to everyone who volunteered, voted, and helped this Primary!

As of noon on September 13th, the Maryland LCV has a 90% win ratio of endorsed candidates in the state's Primary Elections! A total of 104 out of 116 endorsed candidates won their races; another 7 races in which the group made endorsements remain too close to call.

We are thrilled that Peter Franchot for Comptroller and Doug Gansler for Attorney General both triumphed on Election Day. These are candidates who both ran on strong environmental platforms and who will fight for conservation protections after they are elected in November.

Maryland LCV had wins in its top priority races for Senate and the House of Delegates as we reached out to tens of thousands of registered environmental voters with our pro-conservation elections message. Priority legislative races included:

  • District 11, where we endorsed Bobby Zirkin for Senate and Dan Morhaim, Jon Cardin, and Dana Stein for House of Delegates who all won.
  • District 20, which included activist Tom Hucker for Delegate, who won
  • District 21, where the results are incomplete, we endorsed candidate for Senate Jim Rosapepe who won. In the House of Delegates race, endorsed Delegate Barbara Frush has won her bid for reelection, but the race for the other two seats is too close to call. Maryland LCV's other endorsed candidates, Delegate Brian Moe and Ben Barnes, are both faring well as of noon today.
